Have I been Pwned?

Have you ever wondered if any of your personal details, such as email addresses and passwords have been compromised in one of the many data breaches that occur daily?

Well, a talented developer and Regional Director at Microsoft, Troy Hunt, took it on himself to create the website “Have I Been Pwned” (HIBP).

Troy says “I created HIBP as a free resource for anyone to quickly assess if they may have been put at risk due to an online account of theirs having been compromised or “pwned” in a data breach. I wanted to keep it dead simple to use and entirely free so that it could be of maximum benefit to the community.”

Find out if your data is in the wild by following this link. It’s worth doing on a regular basis as the HIBP database is rapidly growing.

If you find that you have been compromised, then please follow the basic rules. Change your password for one that has never been used before and seriously consider using a password manager such as 1password. These tools will generate you an unmemorable password but stores it securely in an encrypted database which you will have secured with a longer but more memorable password. Bingo! only one password to remember.
